We recently purchased a new [to us] a/c and it came w/ the Ex500 system. I've subscribed through Jep, for the navdata as well as the high and low enroute charts. I'm having trouble getting the actual chart to display however. Does anyone know the 'how to' get these to display? |

The EX500 does not display Jeppesen High or Low enroute charts. The EX500 can display Jeppesen terminal procedure charts (SIDs, STARs, approaches, and airport diagrams).
To show Jeppesen terminal procedures, you must have purchased CMax (http://www.avidyne.com/products/ex500/cmax.asp). If you have the "Chart" tab on the bottom, then you have CMax. If you don't have the Chart tab, you must take your EX500 to an Avidyne dealer to have it installed. (You should also check with the dealer that you have the latest software, Release 4.1.) Once you have CMax, you then must get a digital chart subscription from Jeppesen. Finally, you will download the charts from the JSUM program on your PC to a USB storage device, then load them from the USB device to your EX500. There is more detailed information available here: http://www.avidyne.com/support/downloads/cmax.asp Congratulations on your airplane purchase.

Ah, ok well I'v got the standard approach charts in the system and can view them [I do have Cmax]. So basically, I've got the LE and high charts, but can' use them due to limitations in the Ex500?
Kinda stinks, it certainly limits the paperless cockpit idea.

We are the operator of a Cessna Columbia 400(reg no: 9M-BEH , s/n :
41520) installed with Avidyne Flight max Entegra EX5000.We are having problems with the initial fuel and CHT indications on MFD. 1) Initial fuel I entered the 'Initial Fuel' input and key in the amount of fuel. Then I select 'fuel done'. The MFD displays the input for Fuel Used and Fuel Remaining. After the engine is running for a while on ground, the Fuel Used and Fuel Remaining disappears from the MFD .I tried to key in the input again but no indication is displayed. I tried this a few times but the result is still the same. 2) CHT indications on MFD During engine ground run , the CHT indicator on cylinder #3 rises up to red range. Then falls to yellow range and rises again to red range intermittently. The CHT on the other cylinders are in the normal range. We would appreciate if you could give your suggestions or advice regarding both matters. Thank you. |

It appears to be a defective Engine Sensor Unit. Please contact your Avidyne dealer to set up a repair. If you have any additional issues or questions, please call Avidyne at 1-800-AVIDYNE.

Hi
We recently upgraded our EX5000 MFD on our Columbia 400 and now wish to install the Jeppesen charts such as the SIDs, STAR, Airport diagram and approaches as well as the IFR enroute charts. Appreciate some advise and how we can achieve that. Secondly can you please advise as to what are the differences between the latest version of the EXP5000 PFD compare to the 2005 version we have and the cost of upgrading it. TQ |

Hello TQ,
Reference your MFD question, does your MFD already have a "CHARTS" tab along the bottom edge? If so, then you just need to order the database updates from Jepp. If there is not a "CHARTS" tab, then you would need to order the CMax activiation utility from Avidyne ($499 list). It is also important to note that you'd get airport diagrams and approach plates, not enroute charts. Reference your PFD question, the two principal changes to the PFD since that timeframe are the addition of WAAS capability to the PFD and providing a means to calibrate the air data system out in the field for small errors (in other words, the PFD does not need to come back to the Avidyne factory for re-calibration in that case.). For a pre-Release 7 PFD, which it sounds like you have, the upgrade price is $5,395. Typical installation durations run 4 hours when you add up the labor to remove and replace the PFD. |

Hi
TQ for the response. Since I have the 'Charts' tab on my MFD I would not require the activation utility but will just order the database from Jepps. Does the CMax not support the enroute charts as well? On the PFD can it be done as a field upgrade rather than having to send the PFD back to a service station to be done? TQ

No, CMax does not support enroute charts.
As for being able to do a field load only of the PFD, let me check with Avidyne Tech Support first. If the PFD hasn't been into Avidyne since 2005, it'll almost certainly need to come back for two reasons: there are probably a few hardware mods that should be made and, the 2005 vintage software may not support the field loadable capability. Any chance you know the exact software version you have right now? It should be displayed at each power up on the ADAHRS warm up box during alignment.

Just confirmed with Avidyne Tech Support that a PFD upgrade from pre-Release 7 to the current release would require the PFD to come into Avidyne for servicing. There is no field load option in that case.

Hi
Thank you so much for your prompt response. Even though I did not have the time to check my version of the PFD I am quite certain that it is a pre Release 7 version and may have to go into a repair station or back to Avidyne for the upgrade. Will check on where I can send for the upgrade to be done. TQ

Sounds good. Any of the 600+ Avidyne Service Stations can assist.
