For last 11 years in my Cirrus SR20 I have been downloading very easily from MFD engine data for Cirrus Reports and and Savvy. But after last 4 flights I have not been able to download any engine data. Is USB full? Does USB need reformatting? Any suggestions please? Thanks Lance |

Save the data on the USB drive to your computer, then quick format it. Or use another USB drive, smaller than 512 MB, format it to FAT (Not FAT 32)

Hi, Thank you. I have followed your advice and now have FAT fomat showing 99% free space. My USB is 1,000 MB capacity and has worked happily for 11 years. It seems to me that the USB Port on MFD may have developed a fault? Is there a way that I can check for that. My Plan B is to work out how my BAD Elf Wombat can accept the engine data on a SD card? Thanks. Lance

That's remarkable. My 2GB USB drives don't usually last more than two or three years - but they're dirt cheap and I buy them in bulk. Given my experience, I think it more likely that your USB stick, rather than your MFD, has the problem.

My EX5000's USB port failed a few years ago. I chased the possibility of a bad USB stick for quite a while before taking my plane to an avionics shop. Working with Chris Evans, my shop determined pretty quickly that the port itself was indeed dead. The EX5000 was sent in for repair under warranty. I did end up with 2 GB USB sticks, too. They continue to work without any problems.

Hi Guys, Thanks for info. Have been in touch with Avidyne and they are suggesting that as Nav data from Jepp increases in size this may prevent engine data from downloading. Solution is to install a larger 2 GB Compact Flash Card from Avidyne. As it has been suggested my 11 year old ancient USB stick may be the problem I will buy some new ones to eliminate this possibility. I ran a diagnostic on my USB stick and Lap Top said it had no faults and was working. Is that a definitive test? Or could it still be faulty? Thanks Lance

Do you have any files on the USB drive? If you do, either delete them or do a quick format and try it again, if you have not done so already

I don't know if it's necessary, but I do use 3 sticks: one for nav data, one for charts, and one for engine logs.
