Is it possible to load future NavData and Obstacles data bases into the IFDs? If so, then how do I install them when they become effective?

You can only have 1 set of databases installed at a time. If you install databases before their effective date, they'll overwrite the active set. Best you can do is to preload the databases onto a USB stick before the effective date, then install them when you need them.

If a future dated database is installed, does it become active upon install or is that data not available until the "go-live" date?

My understanding is that nav data is good "upon receipt" so that data should be good.

This is one thing I miss from my CNX-80- the ability to load more than one database and have it automatically switch to the newer one when necessary.

Re-read the post above yours.  It answers your question.

actually- it doesn’t.

The database is present on the unit. Does the software, seeing data tagged with a future date, use that data? If nav data is good upon receipt (which is what I’ve always heard) then the future date warning is just an annoyance.

The answer was implied but I will make it explicit.

No, the future database is not valid and cannot be legally used before its issue date.

The only question in your post was:  "If a future dated database is installed, does it become active upon install or is that data not available until the "go-live" date? "

The answer to that question was already explicitly stated:  "You can only have 1 set of databases installed at a time. If you install databases before their effective date, they'll overwrite the active set."

So, to make it expliciter, the answer to your question is, "It becomes active upon install."

I can imagine how difficult two database support would be to implement if the AviOS wasn't designed that way from the start. Just a bit of a shame that Avidyne didn't take on that element of the 20 year old gns480/cnx80 when they decided to design a new FMS-type gps/nav/com.
