After some help as to how this will operate / will it operate?
We are installing a GTN750 / 650 along with dual G600 (can't use IFDs for G600) In the setup for the GTN you can only select one GAMA format output at any one time, I need the GTN to feed the G600s and also the EX500 but they require different GAMA formats. G600 wanting GAMA format 1 and EX500 wanting GAMA format 2. The G600 will have to take priority which means feeding the EX500 with GAMA format 1, this will result in the loss of quite a few 429 labels. Has anyone had to do something similar or anyone at Avidyne have a best option for the situation? Could opt for an RS232 feed to the EX500 but again won't have all the information of 429 GAMA format 2. |

What do you mean you can't use IFDs for G600? They work perfectly fine with the G600. Did I misinterpret your statement?

Slip in a couple of IFD540s, get a whole lot better function, and your other issues may be fixed too. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 08 Apr 2015 at 10:02pm |

Using their STC I cannot, the G600 must have a Garmin navigator and an IFD with a GTN is not a wise option.
Any ideas with the actual issue? I do prefer the IFD, we have one flying at the moment and awaiting the 440 release. The 540 has had it's teething troubles but is a step above the rest.

Not sure it really is what you're asking but to be clear, you are authorized to use the Avidyne IFD STC on top of the G600 STC. In other words, you use the Garmin G600 STC as the installation basis for that equipment. Then you use the Avidyne IFD540 STC that permits installation of the IFD540(s) with a G600.
I do agree that using one IFD540 and one GTN650/750 is not an optimum installation since those two boxes will not talk to each other. They would be two independent FMS/GPS/Nav/Com inputs to your G600. Certainly legal and functional but not taking advantage of cross talk capability. Can you clarify the specific problem or question you have? |

Thanks AviJake,
To me it would appear you would need to install a GTN initially to validate the Garmin STC installation and sign that off prior to fitting the IFD. I would need to get buy in from our beloved NZ CAA about compounding STCs (and they're difficult at the best of times). Back to the problem, I have since contacted Avidyne tech help who advised the EX500 is now dealt with by Duncan Aviation, their suggestion was go with the RS232 - MapMx or Aviation out from the GTN and Synchro heading option rather than a different 429 format. Details: "In the setup for the GTN you can only select one GAMA format output at any one time, I need the GTN to feed the G600s and also the EX500 but they require different GAMA formats. G600 wanting GAMA format 1 and EX500 wanting GAMA format 2.
