just installed two new IFD440 in an Avidyne equipped 2007 Cirrus, the FLTA is greyed out. Can I use the IFD terrain function along with the Cirrus originally installed system? If no, how do I deactivate the original system and switch to the IFD Terrain system?
Thanks Pat Hernandez

Hi Pat,
You are correct in that you can not have both the Honeywell KGP-760 EGPWS and the Avidyne IFD440 FLTA system both running at the same time (the reason is the regs do not allow any difference in timing for alerting calls and since we don't have access to the proprietary Honeywell algorithms, the "solution" to disable one of the systems to prevent that possibility.) The reason your FLTA is greyed out I presume is that your installer followed the correct procedures and selected "External EGPWS = Yes" in the setup pages. That disables the FLTA algorithms in the IFD unit. The course of action that Avidyne recommends is to have your installer remove the EGPWS from your airplane and sell it on your behalf and then set the Avidyne IFD540/440 setup value to No for the EGPWS presence. That will enable all the FLTA code in your IFD.
