RF leg support?

   Will the 540/440 support RF (Radius to Fix) legs out of the gate? As far as I know, there are only a couple att, but that more are likely to appear in the future. I believe that Garmin navigators do not (yet) support them.

	Are you thinking of the OBS function in the G530, that allows you to fly a designated radial to a fix in the flight plan?

	No, it is not just OBS. Radius to fix are curved segments, approach constructs often use several linked together. Each consists of a start point, end point, and a specified radius vector. 	Yes Orest, you're right. I meant a curved RF leg of a GPS approach (radius, not radial). Check Carlsbad, California RNAV approaches to see what I mean. Will a 530W/430W fly this? Vince

	The short answer to the original thread question is no. The initial release of the IFD540 will have RF legs removed from the database. We've been working with the FAA on this topic now for over a year (and interestingly enough, working with Garmin) to try and resolve this overall issue. At this point, I don't think it will be resolved in time for the initial release of the 540 but it is our intent to have RF leg support as soon as feasible. For those not in the know, RF legs are one of 23 leg types that are defined by ARINC424 (the reg that covers that type of FMS stuff). RF legs are the only ones that have this particular cert related issue and as noted above, exist in a very small subset of total global approaches. Until it's resolved, all approaches that have a RF leg as part of the defined procedure are removed from the nav database and just not available for selection in the IFD540. 530W and 430W do not support RF leg types either.

	Jake: If that is the case, can you explain why the RNAV-24 Y approach at KCRQ is not in the database? The "X" approach has an RF leg to the IF at KANEC. The "Z" approach has an RF leg to the FAF, and is "authorization required". However, the "Y" approach has two transitions, Thermal and Julian, and both are straight legs (no RF legs)

	KCRQ RNAV 24-Y was not included in the database because there was a transition (OCN) that contained a couple of RF legs. However, the OCN transition has been recently removed. I didn't go to the trouble of finding out the exact cycle in which it was removed. I did check the cycle 1308 data, though, and the RNAV 24-Y does exist showing only the two transitions (TRM and JLI) . So, I suspect if you load a current database, you'll see the KCRQ RNAV 24-Y.
