As an early adopter of the IFD540 I am thinking about learning the unit using simulation software. Since this is a touch screen unit, making the simulation software an app for android and ipad touch screen tablets would be much more realistic than current simulation software using a mouse to simulate turning a knob as is done on the GNS530 simulation software.

Hi NorrisAir,
We agree and we have been using a touch tablet during our development if the IFD540. This tablet is a Windows7 operating system and has a lower performance than the IFD540 but it allowed us to evaluate different concepts before integrating onto the real hardware. This was a big time saver. The IFD540 simulator is not ready for distribution due to the interface being incomplete and the software not being finalized. We expect that it will be available on or just prior to IFD540 certification. Having the IFD540 simulator on an Ipad and Android is more work but there are many more of these out there than Windows tablets. We will look into it. Thanks, - Mike |
