This week we announced the existence of the ASA575 family of Avidyne servos for the DFC90 and DFC100 autopilots. This is a program we've had underway for a while and felt it was time to make public.
We are expecting to be complete with the environmental and flight testing of these servos sometime this summer providing a certified installation option at that time. These servos will be installation plug-and-play with existing King servos meaning that all existing King servo mounting fixtures, bridal cables and rigging are all left intact and the Avidyne ASA575 servo simply replace the King servo motor/capstan assembly. We are also in the process of designing an installation adapter plate intended to allow the Avidyne servos to mount on existing STec and Century mounting bracketry. For aircraft that had previously installed King servos and want to upgrade to the DFC90/DFC100 autopilot, it will be required to replace the legacy King servos with the brand new Avidyne servos. For aircraft that had previously installed STec or Century servos, owners have the option of retaining those servos for DFC90/DFC100 installations or, swapping them out for the Avidyne servos. For aircraft that had no previous autopilot installed or some older, previously not supported set of servos, there is now a path to install the DFC90/DFC100 autopilot using these new Avidyne servos. The Avidyne ASA575 servos will come in both 14V and 28V variants. One side note - we have no plans to allow a mixed combination of Avidyne and 3rd party servos to exist together in the same airplane. We do expect to permit 3rd party pitch trim motors to be a compatible configuration with the Avidyne servos. We intend to announce pricing in the near future. We consider the pricing to be quite modest.

I believe you have hit a home run with this development; while price always matters, the important tithing is that you are creating a de novo install path.

A bunch of older Diamond DA-40s are not equipped with an AP and no STC exists to install one. I, and many other fellow DA40 owners, would be extremely interested in seeing your AP STCd on the DA40 with an Aspen or G500 PFD.

Hi Charles,
I agree that the DA40 is another great platform for the DFC90. We have heard a bunch of interest from DA40 owners in the DFC90. As with the other aircraft types that people are asking for a DFC90 solution on, we have not yet announced any plans to support the DA40. It looks like we'll be fully occupied for the rest of 2012 getting the airplanes we have announced (C-182, Cirrus, Saratoga, Baron, Bonanza) done and certified. We'll be taking our servo through certification this fall/winter and then we can turn our attention to additional aircraft. |
