Had a weird one tonight...was shooting practice approaches in the St Louis Bravo, using a squawk code of 0233 (or something like that). All of a sudden ATC asked, what happened to your squawk code? I looked at the xpndr and it was showing 1200(!). Very odd...anyone else ever experience that?

Any chance you inadvertently pushed the VFR button. I have done that more than once, looking to push the IDENT.

Could a momentary loss of power to the AXP340 cause the squawk code to reset to 1200?

If it was a VFR button push, by mistake or if the VFR button is wonky and responding to vibration, pushing the VFR button again would restore the original code.
If it was a power flicker, and your unit is set to reset to the VFR code, then pushing the VFR button again would do nothing I expect. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 24 Apr 2016 at 10:49am |

No, I'm sure I didn't press the VFR button...my box is too far off to the right to get accidentally near it :)
I didn't know about pushing the VFR button to switch back to the previous code...I'll have to try that if it happens again. |

Sounds scary — squawking 1200 anywhere near my home airport is cause for action against the pilot's certificate. Anyway a power flicker shouldn't reset the unit to 1200, or at least it doesn't in mine, as the code survives the power being off for weeks.

On the 340 the code survived a power reset.
On my new remoted 322, the code resets on power up, to whatever you have set as the default. Guess you'd want to change that to something other than 1200, if you fly through that area. * Orest |

What does that mean? Are you saying the 322 resets to 1200 at every power up? That should definitely not be the case.

Well, yes, mine does. Code is 1200 on every power up. I did explicitly confirm this on one shutdown. And, it is rare that I fly with a 1200 code, yet it is 1200 on every powerup. Do I have an issue? How do I proceed? * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 07 May 2016 at 6:18pm |

The 322 is controlled remotely (by your IFD?) so the test would be to cycle power on each unit separately and see if the "default" functionality resides within the transponder or within the control panel (the IFD). Perhaps you are observing the IFD powering up with a 1200 control code for the transponder? David Bunin |

Can do, but it is academic, as either way, it will still power up with 1200.

The 540 just acts as a control head for the 322, but will check it next time I'm in the plane.
