The marketing is that the "A" units will paint ADS-B targets on your display, and correctly merge them with transponder sensed targets.
From the FAQs it appears that the referenced ADS-B traffic is just the 1090 ADS-B out traffic data direct from other aircraft, that the 600xA picks up through its own antennas, and uses to correct/sharpen the sensed data and extend the range? What about 1090/978 traffic data (TIS-B) received from a secondary internal data source, like a 978/1090 transceiver. Will there be some way to intelligently merge that traffic data with a TAS60x unit, or perhaps only a TAS60xA unit? The displays available are the IFD540 (soon) and ASPEN PFD. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 17 May 2014 at 11:30am |

The TAS-A will receive both ground station
and air-to-air 1090 MHz ADS-B information.
....and the 1090 ADS-B out traffic data direct from other aircraf,t
that the 600xA picks up through its own antennas, and uses to correct/sharpen
the sensed data and extend the range? This is one
of the benefits. What about 1090 & 978?
It will receive 1090 MHz Extended Squitter through
Air-to-Air, it will receive 978 MHz through ADS-R from ADS-B ground stations
(received via 1090 MHz), and it will receive TIS-B from ground stations
(received via 1090 MHz). You'll need that A suffix.

Ah, so in terms of operational benefit, the "A" units will largely eliminate the need for having a separate ADS-B transceiver, at least for traffic -- as long as you are participating, else the ground stations will not transmit traffic data to you.
So a 60xA unit + mode S ES like the 340 will make you compliant, and you will get all the info you need. I get weather elsewhere, so FIS-B is not important to me. Any timeframe for the A functionality in the TAS units? I presume it needs a trip back to the shop. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 03 Jun 2014 at 8:47am |
