I use one of these with the output hooked to a standard Piper round jumper cable. Works great.

Looks like 10.23.1 will be delayed? Is that true? If so those who have not done the rollover patch needs to do so...

What is the context for your comment? I haven't heard anything more about the timing. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 22 Mar 2019 at 5:47pm |

Avidyne posted on their facebook page:
"So I'm the bearer of not so great news. The software team discovered a pretty significant bug yesterday so it's looks like it's going to be end of April for the release date. If you haven't done the patch yet I'd suggest doing that right away. We'll keep you posted."

In addition to the Avidyne post to the Facebook closed group, Avidyne Pilots Club, shared above, I received an email directly from PilotSupport@Avidyne.com this afternoon, 3/22/19, bearing the same news. The body of the email is posted here:

Additionally, the email had 3 link buttons for FAQ, Service Bulletin, and Request GPS Rollover Update for 10.2.X.0 Software. I probably received the same email, but I can't find it. Anybody have those links?

Thanks, yes. Actually, after my post I found the email stuck in one of my filters. Update complete now. The load took only about ten minutes.

Avidyne, shouldn't the SIL be posted here as well? https://avidyne.com/support/downloads.asp?prod=ifdpart23

Software update was due to be released by end of March. We're there.
Does anyone know when it will happen?

Update: Avidyne is working on of the release of IFD software version 10.2.3.1 but unfortunately a bug has been found in the software. This will delay the release until at the best the end of April for all models and versions of IFDs.

Hello Steve, the normal (not remote) Lynx NGT 9000+ has also remote capabilities. Do you know if with the Avidyne software update also a remote control of the normal device is possible? In my Beech it is possible to install the normal device, but the operation would be easier on the Avidyne. Thanks Wolfgang

No, if the NGT9000 has a front panel, then the IFD cannot control it. It's only the NGT9000R.

I just tried downloading the patch. When I transfer it to the fob, it shows as an Adobe Acrobat Document. That can't be right. Probably due to settings I have on uploads. What now?

I did the patch update for the IFD540 in my 24 volt Mooney. I just pulled it out on the ramp and started up the engine. It took less then 10 minutes to do the patch install start to finish. I thought it was all pretty easy.
Just note that if you don't delete it from the USB stick, and you use the same stick for database updates, it will default to wanting to install the dfs file every time. Solve that by deleting the file off the USB after the update is done.

There are two files. One is the PDF (read it through completely and follow the directions explicitly), and then the firmware patch file itself. You are missing the second file. * Orest |

In my downloads folder it shows correctly as a .dsf file. But on the fob, under "Type" it's an Adobe Acrobat file.
It must have to do with how I download and transfer files. I'm going to try to install the patch in the AM. Hopefully all will go well.

I do have to ask how Avidyne managed to design and certify a modern GPS without thinking to code or test for such a well known issue as the rollover (that others such as a certain big G managed fine). Seems like a glaring engineering omission?
What else has been forgotten about in our units?

Your computer has associated the file type with Acrobat and will show any file with that extension, on any drive, as an Acrobat file. However, if you just copy it to a USB drive and you insert the drive into another computer (the IFD), that computer will interpret the extension as whatever its settings tell it the file is for.

Your assertion is not correct, and misleading. There is nothing mysterious about the GPS rollover, it was known about since GPS was first established. As I understand it, it could not be corrected for until close to the rollover date. The limitation is in the design of the GPS data stream, not the GPS unit's firmware, whether A's or G's. Garmin released a similar patch late last year, it was bundled in one of their firmware updates, much like Avidyne was planning to do. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 07 Apr 2019 at 9:14pm |
