Last year there was substantial discussion on COPA concerning MFD mapping errors of strikes identified by the TWX670 and recorded on the R9 MFD as compared to strikes mapped by datalink.  The problem seems subjectively to have vanished, at least as far as can be determined in this summer's thunderstorm seson.  Unfortunately, Stormscope users with R9 this year report a very similar problem. What steps were taken to resolve this issue withe the TWX670 and how does the issue relate to legacy Stormscope users R9?  Could we have a report on the nature of the problem with both devices?  Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in responding.  Avidyne has tested the Stormscope interface with R9.  R9 correctly depicts strikes as they are received from a Stormscope.   The issue with TWX and R9 was related to the TWX antenna installation.  Those issues were addressed through increased shielding and grounding of the TWX antenna.  I cannot comment as to why the Stormscope would be inaccurate, but it could be due to similar problems.  Installation/performance of the Stormscope should be brought to L-3's attention.
