I don't use VOR navigation often, and I'm having a "brain fart" about how to use my IFD 540 and Garmin G5 to track radials. For example, the LAX Coastal Route requires that I fly the 323 radial off of the LAX VOR.
Can someone educate me, or at least point me to a good video or other explanation. Thanks! |

I don't have a G5 as an HSI/Nav head but I do display the IFD on my (gasp) mechanical HSI :) select the frequency for the vor by pressing the frequency knob in, that'll switch the tuning from COM to Nav, enter the frequency you want and promote it to the active from the standby position. Next the little knob in the upper right corner and turn it one click, that'll switch the output to the HSI from GPS -> VLOC, turn it again and it'll go from VLOC -> GPS That is all you need to do...at least to change the output from the IFD to my lowly HSI. Keep in mind the FAA is shutting down VORs at a pretty good clip, make sure the VOR you want to use is actually available, remember you listen to the ID from the VOR (hint press the volume button to toggle ID on/off while displaying the VOR frequencies.
