If you are familiar with the Los Angeles Class B Coastal Route.  From the north, you need to intercept the LAX 323 Radial southbound.  Upon Reaching the LAX VOR, you follow the 123 Radial Southbound.
Using the OBS in our IFD 440 to fly to Catalina (KAVX) via the coastal route, upon reaching the LAX VOR, the OBS, automatically switches to GPS and navigates to the next way point, KAVX.  Not a good thing for our GFC500 Autopilot.  It would be great if it remained in the OBS mode until I took it off the OBS mode and switched it to GPS or VLOC.
Is this a shortcoming of IFD440 or is there a way to fly the Coastal Route properly using OBS?
When I use OBS in many of the Garmin units I use, OBS draws a line through the waypoint from infinity to infinity and it stays until I toggle OBS off.
Thank you.

The easiest thing to do to fly this would be the just use VLOC mode, and do the twist when over the station.

If you wanted to use GPS, perhaps adding two user waypoints with Format Rad/Dist, using the LAX 323@10miles and then the LAX123@10 miles. Add the first waypoint, then LAX, then the second if you want to note station passage. Set the actual distance of the waypoints to whatever makes sense for your flight.

OBS mode has a specific function, to track a bearing to OR from a waypoint, but not to AND from a waypoint. Think “intercept the xxx radial from yyy”, where yyy is always a navaid.

You could use OBS when inbound to LAX, and then create a single waypoint for sequencing after LAX, but this wouldn’t show as well on your moving map.

i an aware of this other options. However, with all garmin devices, I'm able to stay in OBS mode until I tap to edit.
I was wondering if, of avidyne could also do that.
