I'm getting ready to wire my AXP340 per the installation manual. My existing encoder is a Trans-Cal D120-P2-T. Should I expect issues that might require updating my encoder? I have already replaced a Garmin 430W with an IFD440.

Most installers I've talked to recommend the Trans-Cal Nano ( http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/transcalencoder.php" rel="nofollow - http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/transcalencoder.php )
For $269 it sounds like it would be worth it and it looks like it is pin compatible with yours current encoder.

Thanks Lance, I've got a call into Tech support to get their thoughts as well.

Another acceptable Serial Encoder is the ACK A30.9 (Mod 9) encoder. ($245)
Its suppose to work with the AXP340, SkyTrax100 and the IDF5x0 series.
You have 2ea serial RS232 lines, split one line off to connect to the 2 units.
I just ordered the unit and waiting for my avionics.

If we're listing encoders that work with the AXP340, I have a Sandia 5-35 that was installed before my AXP340. It also has 2x serial output. Sandia is high quality and works well together with my AXP340 and IFDs.

Yes Sandia is a great company with some great products.
Wish I had it in the budget to get the Sandia SAC 7-35 Air Data Computer.
It's around $2750 but the box has 4 functions: ADC, Encoder, FF monitor, and Altitude alerter.
This ADC I believe would put A/S & Altitude strips on the 550 while viewing in the SVS mode.
