This just sent out to the R9 dealers:

We want to make you aware of Enhanced Vision System (EVS) Infrared video on Release 9. The software had been TSO’d in a previous release but now it is STC’d, making it available to our Cirrus R9 fleet.  This certification is only for the Release 9 software and does not include the MaxVis EVS camera.  The camera is available from OneSky Aviation in Anchorage, AK (Cary Foster - (907) 245-1759).  OneSky is the distributor for the cameras, camera installation instructions and the camera STC documentation for all the Cirrus models.

If you have a customer that wants EVS for R9 then you should contact Avidyne, Reid Antonacchio (239) 249-0414, for the service bulletin and if they need a camera, you’ll need to contact OneSky.  Upon request from the dealer, Avidyne will be mailing out the service bulletin, STC data, drawings and USB thumb drives with the utility to enable the EVS on the displays.   For the existing R9 fleet there is no charge from Avidyne for this upgrade.  The customer is expected to pay for the installation costs.

Thanks,
- Mike Ingram

I have mounted the EVS camera by MaxViz with the appropriate STCs for installation obtained from Avidyne, OneSky and MaxViz.  A problem reflected in an intermittent blue screen labeled "No video" interrupts a constant video feed and presents a possible flight safety hazard as a distraction, particularly on approach.  Discussion of this issue on a COPA forum, apparently based on a company email response to another user with the same problem,  reports this is a design flaw in the video harness related to a soldered "y" splitting the video signal from the camera into the IFD one and two, respsectively.

What specifically is the issue,  what steps is Avidyne talikng to address this problem and when does the company anticipate it will be resolved?

Hi Harvey,

Engineering and aircraft crew are looking into the EVS "No Image" issue.  Ed Van Every installed a video amplifier and that didn't solve his problem.  The camera specifies the impedance expected by the camera is 75 ohms so this may be the issue that needs to be solved.  I don't believe it is a 'design' flaw but we are also looking into this area anyway.   We are in touch with MaxViz, I spoke with Lou Churchville for a while at Oshkosh last week.

When we diagnose what the issue is then we will present a solution to those with the camera installed and will update our installation instructions.  I will keep you posted as to the progress of our investigation.
