Understand numbers are small but there have been display problems with the EVS camera. What is the status of the investigation of this?

Brian,
When we installed the MaxViz EVS camera we spliced the co-ax cable to run the wire to both displays. There have been no problems on our airplane with this wiring. Our STC guys have a lot of experience with wiring up IR and other cameras in aircraft. That is why we chose this method and wrote the STC and installation paperwork around it.
Having said that, there has been many hours of testing for two installations that had multiple issues. I won't go into all the details but at least one issue was Avidynes and the others we are still trying to figure out. We believe that it is something in the aircraft and we are talking to their service centers.
In general it is very challenging when designing STCs due to variability in the quality of the installation shops. When we first certified R9 we allowed just about any shop to do them and quickly realized that it was support nightmare. Each shop had a ramp-up time to learn the R9 STC, some intepreted or made their own assumptions on of the STC material and labor charges were all over the place. As a result, we focused on just a few shops and the quality has greatly improved.
I say this because this same scenario happens for other aspects of the R9 work. I'm not bashing any of the shops but if you don't have experience with R9 installs then it takes time to learn how they work. I believe that some of this may have happened with the EVS.
Regardless of what it is, we are working on it but we don't have a solution at this time.

Mike, I understand how the variability between planes might induce different sorts of problems. I never saw anything like this on the company demo aircraft, and certainly Trip Taylor never reported any hint in his published reports of the "No Video" problem we're now seeing. But the problem seems common to those of us who have adopted this option, except perhaps in degree, but that only includes my plane, Van Every's and one other. Perhaps its quality control in the splice, but my harness was created by Avidyne. Yet with all the resources you reportedly have thrown at Van Every's plane in terms of new blades, etc., it is surprising no solution has emerged. You'd think it's something simple, because as far as I can see, it's a straightforward video feed and display that should not require any breakthrough engineering. Since there are so few with actual experience, you might want to keep the shops and owners directly apprised of where we're at by email blasts, if only to cut down on noise and frustration. Anyway, I'm pretty sour on the dispatch rate for an SR22 and would like to move on to an R9 Meridian, but want to see the panel finished in my plane before it is sold. I appreciate your effort. Good luck.

The removal of EVS video (video not available messages) was addressed in R9.2.4. Thanks for your feedback and glad we could address this issue.

Version 9.2.4 does much more for EVS that replace a "No Video" message. There is no flicker whatsoever. The image is rock stable . The clarity when depicted on the PFD really enhances focus in descent to runway for the last 200 feet on misty nights. Avoidance of icing in freezing cloud tops is significantly enhanced during night IFR. I am extremely pleased to have included this safetyt option. Thanks!
