The Avidyne price list (http://www.avidyne.com/downloads/brochures/AV645_Retail_PL.pdf) says the AXP340 has an MSRP of $3495.

The AXP322 press release (http://www.avidyne.com/news/press.asp?release=306) says the AXP322 has an MSRP of $5450 (though this includes install hardware, which costs extra for the 340).

That's a price difference of $1955.

A quick browse of Sarasota's web site leads me to think that the price delta between the Garmin GTX330-ES and the remote version (GTX-33ES) is about $1000, but I didn't look up MSRPs.

So two questions:
- why on earth do remote-mount transponders cost MORE than panel-mount units?
- does Avi expect lots of sales of the remote unit given a $2000 price difference? (And yes, I understand that the street price gap may be smaller than $2K once the AXP322 hits the channel).

So here are some comparisons on pricing between remote mount transponders. The best way to compare prices is using the MSRP. Dealers occasionally run promotions or deals.

AXP322: $5,450
GTX 33: $5,450
TT22: couldn't find a MSRP, I bet its in the same neighborhood.

I'm not sure why remote mounts are priced higher than the panel mounts but it seems to be across the board from most manufactures. I think when the AXP322 is on the market, it will priced closer to the prices of other remote mounts offered by dealers today.

Thanks, Simpson-- I know it's not entirely fair to compare Avidyne's MSRP against Garmin's street price, but I still don't understand why a remote unit should cost so much more. I suppose it's one of those things...

Can the AXP340 be remoted from the IFD540, similar to the Garmin GTX330 that can be remoted from the 750 (and the good old CNX80)?

The AXP340 and AXP322 are now the same retail price from Avidyne, $2995.

They are both listed on the Avidyne web site with direct purchase prices of $2600.  The 340 would also presumably require a $250 installation tray/kit.  The Skytrax 100 carries a direct purchase price of $2199.

Why these units are priced (in total $5,049) higher than a Garmin GTX345 ($4,995 list) escapes me.  The 345 is now supposedly compatible with the IFD540 S/W ver. 10.2, and as I read the spec, has more capability.  It is 1090 MHz out and both 1090 and 978 MHz in, and all in one box, while the Avidyne is only 978 MHz in and requires two separate boxes .  Additionally the 345 provides bluetooth info to a tablet running Foreflight.

Can someone explain to me why the Avidyne AXP 340 with the Skytrax 100 would be preferred to the GTX340?
