I have an IFD 540 on the latest rev of software. I also have an iPad running Foreflight and a Stratus 2.
The IFD 540 had a secondary remote wifi network set up and the Stratus was acting as the hub for the WiFi network. The IFD would connect to the Stratus SSID, the iPad would connect to the Stratus SSID and everything was working fine. The IFD had to be re-flashed due to a corrupt nav database (preventing the updating of nav data). After the flash and feature re-enablement, I cannot configure the remote WiFi network. I can connect to the LIO SSID and transfer flight plans, but this isn't a solution because I then lose the data from the Stratus (being a different SSID). I can get to the network page on the IFD and configure a second network, but when I move to another page and then back to the network page, the new config disappears. I remember that the first time I configured this it wasn't as straight forward as it appears, but I don't know if I'm mis-remembering or there is some vulcan nerve pinch I forgot. So- to sum up- Everything was working the way I wanted it until the reflash. WiFi is working on the LIO SSID. When I configure a secondary network and move to another page and back to the network config page, the configuration is gone. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I suspect you have a PIN defined in Maintenance Mode. There's a known issue that will cause some maintenance mode settings to not be saved even if the PIN is entered correctly. Assuming that's the problem, you'll need to contact tech support to get a DSF that clears the PIN.

Hello Steve-
Quick follow up- your suggested course of action was correct and everything is configured the way it was previously to the re-flash. Thanks again!

Named the #1 IFD440 wifi SSID to TOP
named the #2 IFD440 wifi SSID to BOTTOM can you connect the wifi on the #1 IFD 440 to the IFD100app on an Ipad (#1)
and can you then connect the wifi on the #2 IFD 440 to the IFD100app on a second Ipad (#2) then have them both on and working at the same time ? |

With some slight tweaks, you could get this to work, but we still wouldn't recommend it. The bigger question is why you would want to do this. There's really no advantage to such a configuration over the recommended method of configuring one IFD to be a WiFi server and connecting both iPads to that IFD, while the other IFD would have WiFi turned off.

Cruiser, did you get this to work?
I cannot make the IPAD that was connected to my 540 work with my 440, even though the 540 is powered down, and the settings on the 440 appear correct with the green WIFI symbol lit up, and the LIO_WIFI recognized and connected in the ipad settings. It still won't send or received flt plan data. My plan was also to get a second ipad mini and use one for each like you described. Bob

If you are talking about the IFD100 transferring flight plans, are you sure the databases are the same version on the iPad and the IFD440? If they are not, the flight plans won't transfer. You also have to set up the correct Chassis ID. I think the two boxes have to have separate chassis ID's set through some DIP switches on the side of the IFD. At least that is where you set the ID on my IFD540.

Out of curiosity, in a dual installation, with an IFD540 and IFD440, can you have the IFD100 controlling the IFD440, even though the IFD540 is the primary unit? That is, interact with the IFD540 on the unit itself, while you control the IFD440 with the IFD100?
I'm not sure if this would make logical sense, other than the 540 has a big screen already will the 440 can use the extra screen real estate.

Databases are the same.
Chassis ID settings may be the problem, I haven't done anything with them. Bob

Henry, I understand the question, and I think you could set up the IFD100 to control
the 440 and via crosstalk it would control the 540 as well. Once you get spoiled with the large screen of the 540, the 440 is just too small. The IFD100 fixes that. I disconnected the crosstalk of the 540/440 combination to have them as two separate units. It would work for me to use the IFD100 with the 440, but I like it so much with my 540 primary, that I don't want to give it up. It does not seem that I can switch it back and forth from the 540 to the 440. I'm waiting for the IPAD mini 6 to come out for the second one. Bob

To accomplish what you want, the chassis id of both IFDs would have to be set to #1. That would work as long as cross-sync is disabled. If you ever wanted to have them cross-synced again, though, one of the IFDs would have to be set back to chassis id #2.

That worked great.
It's now simple to choose on startup which unit's wifi I want to use for the flight. I now feel my 440 is a top of the line radio with all the IPAD real estate. Bob
